skos:definition "The 'radioactivity' which, if present in a sample, produces a counting rate
that will be detected (i.e. considered to be above 'background') with a certain
level of confidence.
The ‘certain level of confidence’ is normally set at 95%, i.e. a sample
containing exactly the 'minimum detectable activity' will, as a result of random
fluctuations, be taken to be free of 'radioactivity' 5% of the time.
The 'minimum detectable activity' is sometimes referred to as the detection
limit or lower limit of detection. The counting rate from a sample containing
the 'minimum detectable activity' is termed the determination level.
" (en)
